Sally Pearson<\/b> (n\u00e9e<\/a> McLellan<\/b>) (born 19 September 1986[3]<\/a><\/sup>) is an Australian<\/a> athlete<\/a>. She is the 2011 World champion<\/a> and 2012 Olympic champion<\/a> in the 100 metres hurdles<\/a>. She also won a silver medal<\/a> in the 100 m hurdles at the 2008 Summer Olympics<\/a> and the 2013 World Championships<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sally started athletics seriously after moving to Queensland from Sydney, where she had participated successfully in swimming and gymnastics.Her idols include Catherine Freeman, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor and actress Julia Roberts.Sally changed her surname from McLellan to Pearson following her marriage to Kieran Pearson in early 2010.<\/p>\n

Pearson broke through on the international level by winning the 100-meter hurdles at the 2003 World Youth Championships in Sherbrooke, Canada, in 13.42 seconds. She was also fifth in the 200 (24.01) and competed in the medley relay. The same year, at age 16, she ran on Australia\u2019s 4 x 100-meter relay team at the Paris World Championships.In 2004 Pearson was third in the 100, fourth in the 100 hurdles and competed on Australia\u2019s fifth-place 4 x 100-meter relay team at the World Junior championships in Grosseto, Italy.Sally won gold in the 100m hurdles at the 2012 London Olympics, four years after winning silver in Beijing. Laying claim to the Australian record of 12.28, Sally was the 2011 world champion in the 110m hurdles and the IAAF World Athlete of the Year. Sally competed in Moscow at the 2013 IAAF World Championships despite a limited preparation due to injury.
