Art Spectrum can be replaced by any brand, student or professional quality, in those colours. We reccomend Winsor & Newton. Brushes could also be red sable brights or gold nylon/taklon.

Materials for the Soft Pastels class - Basic:
For the technique we use I favour the Schmincke and Sennelier brands.
They are the best for good reason. But the sets of both are dearer than we would like.
We need a range of 20 or 30 colours minimum, to start with. Mungyo pastels are unusually soft for the price, so they are a good option. Art Spectrum just released a new range of Extra Soft square pastels, and they will serve us well.
So, if price is a concern I would start with Mungyo and AS. Then replenish and increase the range with Schmincke as we progress, one stick at a time.

1) Option 1. Mungyo set of 48 assorted pastels: $47.90 - 23% = $36.89 + gst

Materials for the Soft Pastels class - Intermediate:
2) Option 2. Combination of Mungyo for primary colours with Art Spectrum Extra Soft, which has the portrait and skin tones. By your personal choice you could replace "Skin tones" by "Portrait", "Arid or Temperate Landscapes" or "Violets" sets of 20.
Pastel pencils not included but are the same as the basic set, 24 or 48 Derwent.

Materials for the Soft Pastels class - Advanced:
3) Option 3. Schmincke individual sticks (400 colours total) = $6.60 + gst to add as time goes by.
If you rather dive directly into Schmincke sets as I did, let me know. A set of 45 or 60 pastels in wooden box are $395 and $507 + gst respectively.
The set of 60 below is just a starting set. Eventually you will need to build up on that, from a stick at a time until approximately 100 pastel sticks. This is just an economy quote.
Accessories like paper stumps and the soft Pan Pastel spatulas we use in class are not included. They are inexpensive, in any case.
