1) Specific Preparation Phase. 2) The Early Competition Period.
The emphasis is on the particular qualities which are specific to pole vaulting. It is a hard training time of the year as it runs into early-season competitions. It expands on the new boundaries created by the preparation period.
2) Special Competition preparation. 2) Peak period. The objectives of the early competition phase are to reach and stabilize top form and to prepare the athlete for the most important competitions of the cycle. Active recovery and avoidance of injury. By evolving an optimal blend of competitions and specific training a further increase in performance should be expected within 3-4 weeks. Fine-tuning. The major focus competition of this period falls into this phase.
March to August.

The objectives of the late competition phase are to reach and stabilize top form and to prepare the athlete for the most important competitions of the cycle. Active recovery and avoidance of injury.
2) General winter preparation period. Winter strength and endurance.
The emphasis is on building up the overall qualities of the athlete, such as general strength and endurance, ie training to train. Getting fit. Total body conditioning. Modification or consolidation of technique.
Subject to schedules by state athletic bodies and NSW clubs, at least one competition a month can be expected.
